Josiah Courage Sims

Josiah started having stomach pains on Monday and we assumed that he had a flu that had been running through our house. However, it seemed to be affecting Josiah worse than anyone else. On Tuesday afternoon he was still having a lot of pain in his belly and throwing up. We took him to the doctor that afternoon. The doctor naturally thought that he had a 3 day flu that has been going around in our area. Tuesday evening Josiah was still in pain and throwing up despite the anti-nausea medicine that the doctor had given. On Wednesday morning we were getting ready to take him to the doctor again when he very suddenly just stopped breathing. By the time the ambulance came he was already gone.

It was determined after the fact that Josiah had a congenital defect known as Meckel's diverticulum. Josiah had a complication as a result of this condition that involved a blockage of the small intenstine. The complication was probably the result of a viral infection.

Our family is deeply shocked by this loss, but we know that God has some good purpose in mind. We are comforted knowing that Josiah is with Jesus who is our only hope. We miss Josiah intensley, but it is mixed with the absolute hope that though he cannot come to us now, we will one day go to him.

We will be communicating plans for the memorial service in the near future. Thank you for all of the support we have recieved.

Laura and family, I am so sorry to hear that one of your precious little ones is no longer with you. I know that God does have a plan for our lives and even though this may be hard to understand and experience it is part of the great plan. He needed to be with your family for a time and now he is back with them in heaven. And like you said so faithfully, you will be back with him one day together again. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers...and even tears. :) God bless you at this Christmas time.

I have followed your blog for many years and have never left a comment before. Totally in shock to read about your child passing...My oldest son also had Meckels and had three episodes of "being sick" before the doctors decided to open him up and see what was going on. This was about 8 years ago and praise God he has not had any problems since. My doctor had told me this probably occured when I was 6 weeks pregnant with him, when the unbilical cord did not exactly line up and a pocket is formed hence the name Meckels.
Just so so so sorry to hear about this tragic loss for your beautiful family.

Dear Laura,
Thanks for updating the medical news about Josiah. I am so sorry. I can't imagine the whole left in your family. I am praying. God does bring comfort. Matt talked Jonathan he said they'd be on their way today and can stay indefinitely. That is a blessing. I hope you don't try to keep it together. As mom's we're aware of when each of our Children are struggling. At this point just hug them. Take time to grieve...a long time. God bless you as carry this other little one and seek to be a willing vessel. I love you and miss. You're family has been adding to Calvary's pray chain. It's a blessing to see the outpouring of love and prayers for your family. You have truly reached out and been a blessing to many. I'd like to call and visit at some point after the new baby comes. Dear Duckygirl,
I am so sorry for your loss. So sudden and unexpected. I'll pray for your family.

I know a lady from Korea who had ten children. She lost contact with several of them during the Korean War. (We assume they're somewhere in N. Korea.) People would often tell her that it didn't matter, because she still had other children. She said, "You may have ten finger, but when you lose one, you still morn and feel the loss."

Your family has touched many hearts- those of your RL friends, and those who have met you online, like myself. It has always been a joy to hear how much you love your children and how much fun you have together as a family. At this time, my heart is so very sad for you in the passing of sweet Josiah, and I am praying that you will experience a peace that seems unattainable and is only from your Heavenly Father. Much love to you and prayers.

Laura, I still really am in a state of shock even though we have never meet I feel like you are a sister in Christ and one day we will meet in Heaven. I have been praying for your dear family alot and to know that one day you will meet your sweet blue eyed, blond hair Josiah again is such a comfort. The comforting thought to know that his Heavenly Father is with him right now must seem so surreal. To know that Jesus loves that baby even more than we can ever imagine, may it give a peace to your family. Even just getting up this morning I prayed and thought I bet they think this is just a bad dream and not real. I really wish there was something I could do even though I live in PA, I wish I could help you guys in some way other then praying.

May you feel the Lord carrying the whole Sims family through this experience.

Hugs,
Richelle

I am so sorry for your loss. I absolutely adored having Josiah on my Cubbie line last year.

I loved how excited he was to see you when you picked him up at the end. I would see you in line and say "Josiah I see someone you know.." He would smile so big and get ready to run out the door. And how he always wanted to sit next to Abram during story time. His face would light up when he saw his family.

I will never forget his shy sweet smile. You are an amazing family. And Laura you are such a wonderful mother. Someone I watch and learn from.
