Randomness

Just in case you haven't seen enough of these lately....

25 Random things about me

1. I used to think of myself as a shy person, the older I get the more I outgoing I think I become.

2. Pizza is my favorite food, but I prefer plain cheese.

3. I'm a picky eater, I think the list of what I like is shorter than what I don't like.

4. I never had dry skin until I moved to the mid-west, now I can't use enough lotion.

5. I'm addicted to Diet coke.

6. My favorite color is yellow and has been my entire life.

7. I am one of 4 girls and we all have the names of the Little house on the Prairie girls (carrie, grace, mary, laura)

8. I love board games and card games even though I rarely win.

9. Sometimes I bribe my kids to play with me so that I can win. (pathetic?)

10. I met my husband in a math class at college.

11. My hair is getting long and I really want to cut it but Ian doesn't want me to.

12. I put my hair in a ponytail everyday. The cold makes it static-y and I can't stand it.

13. I miss the general tsaos chicken from the Vashon Thriftway deli. If I can't have pizza it's the next best thing!

14. I prefer pie over cake.

15. LOST is one of my favorite tv shows, even though it really confuses me.

16. Jesus is my savior.

17. My favorite sport to play is volleyball, I used to be alright at it.

18. I would bake a lot more if I didn't have to do all the dishes afterward.

19. I've gone through labor 7 times and every time I'm scared and nervous.

20. I've already started having dreams of horrible birth scenarios. (prayer anyone?)

21. I love socks, nice warm comfy socks.22. I don't consider myself a very strong swimmer, which makes being around water with kids even more worrisome, so I don't do it often.

23. I fall asleep during movies, rarely do I make it through a whole one.

24. My kids make me laugh. Laughter is good.

25. My all time favorite movie has always been Top Gun. "That's right, Ice-Man, I am dangerous!"

Now, if you made it to the end of this and you haven't done this yet yourself...then TAG you're it!

If only....

At my doctor's appointment last week they drew blood to run some lab tests. Everything came back normal except my thyroid. The nurse called and explained that my numbers showed that I have a slightly overactive thyroid. To me this didn't sound alarming, she assured me it was slightly, not a huge deal but something to watch as time goes by. I asked her if I could be experiencing any symptoms as a result, just to see if this would help explain a few quirks I have.

She listed four symptoms:

1) a lump in the throat feeling

2) heart palpataions

3) weight loss

4) extra energy

I have half of these symptoms. I wish I could say it was the last half. But nope, I get the weird ones!

Announcement!

Since someone already let the cat out of the bag....I suppose it's okay to give you all an official announcement.

I'm pregnant!

I went to see the Ob doctor yesterday for my first prenatal visit and everything seems to be progressing fine. The baby and I are measuring right at 8 weeks along. Which brings a due date of August 30, 2009.

I'm feeling pretty normal, I'm not having too much nausea or tiredness (some just not TONS).

So, there you have it...now everyone knows ;)

Top careers or math, math and more math

My husband thinks I should post this link for all of you home school moms out there.... It is an article about the best and worst jobs in the U.S.. It should be noted that the top 3 jobs listed require a math related degree. And of the top 20 jobs about 13 would require a minimum of 4 quarters of college calculus. There are lots of opportunities out there for people who are willing to 'do the math'. (My husband happens to be an actuary) He often comments on how difficult it is for his company to recruit even now as unemployment is increasing. In fact, companies are hiring more and more people from out of the country as there are not enough Americans qualified for these positions.

Better and refreshed

Thank you for all of your suggestions to my last post. I am feeling better about the whole thing this week. By the end of last week I was invited to play Bunco with a group of ladies in town here...that was fun! And I got together with one other mom for a play date of sorts at the local library.

Side note: the library here ROCKS! They have a typical children's section but also have a great room called a Discovery Room. It is a huge room with all sorts of toys, puppets, puzzles and pretty much anything to keep a toddler entertained while the older kids can search for their books. Now I'm not going to have to stress about keeping kids quiet and occupied!

~And~

A friend from out of town came to visit and gave Hubby and I a chance for a date night! We went to this restaurant where they cook the food right in front of you (not sure how to describe it really). It was super fun...if you have one near you I'd highly recommend going. We'll probably be going back with the kids I think they'll really enjoy it too.

Meeting people

We've been here almost two months now and I'm feeling lonely. I'm not usually a stay at home kind of person. I like to go out and meet people for lunch, at the park...anything really to get some social time. But here I don't know anyone. Not one single person. So my question is...

How do you meet new people?

Do you strike up conversations at the store? Do you meet people through church, home school groups, sports teams??

I am pretty certain that eventually we'll start meeting others and have people over for dinner and such but I'm anxious. Have any of you moved a lot and have any tips for me?
