I have always been amazed at the things that people throw out. I'll be driving around our sub-division and see piles of things people just put out on their curb with their trash. Furniture things like dressers and desks to lamps and other miscellaneous. What we found this week though takes the cake.
Ian was driving and saw a TV. Not a small, old funky thing but one like this,
It's a Sony 42 inch, in great condition.
Obviously since it was thrown out we figured there was a problem with it. Fortunately, a friend of ours was here visiting and he's an electrical genius who loves to take things apart and fix them! :) So, the guys bring the tv inside and he looks it over. Diagnosis? It needed a new projection bulb.
A quick search of Ebay showed we could get one for $100.
A quick google search priced the value at $1500-$2000.
We ordered the part, installed it and ~VOILA~ works perfectly!
Sometimes it pays off to look at people's trash.

I am think that is great! That is my kind of shopping:)
That IS amazing! You guys scored. Aren't Gods provisions good?
I'll just echo what everyone else said.....man, that's a great find!
I never find stuff like that here in the land of the Dumpster Divers and Trash Diggers.....if it's sitting out on the curb, that's different, but I haven't seen stuff like that here.
What a blessing to have a husband who likes to fix things and friends that can help.
Great find! I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in other people's trash:)
What a deal and good timing with the friend :)

I was just reading somewhere a couple of weeks ago that in some places it's illegal to do that (take other people's trash). Can you believe that?!? This is a great example of how ridiculous that is!!!
WOW - what a great find!!! We have some gorgous paintings that Dave found on the kerb once - but nothing as fantastic as your TV!!!
